Road charges in Austria
Yes — you need a vignette to drive on Austrian motorways and expressways. It applies to every vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes, including foreign-registered cars, motorhomes and motorcycles. Driving without one risks an on-the-spot substitute toll.
Austria issues a digital vignette, linked to your licence plate. There is no sticker to attach and nothing to collect — enforcement cameras read the plate. That is why the plate you give us has to be exactly right.
Prices start at €9.60 for a 1 day car vignette (official ASFINAG price, verified 2026-08-19).
What we do not cover
It is valid on Austria's motorways and expressways. Some routes — the Brenner motorway and several tunnel and alpine roads — carry a separate section toll that a vignette does not cover.
