Austrian vignettes for motorcycles

Do motorcycles need an Austrian vignette?

Yes. Motorcycles need a vignette for Austrian motorways and expressways, and they pay a separate, lower official rate than cars. A car vignette does not cover a motorcycle.

A motorcycle vignette is a different product

Austria prices motorcycle vignettes as their own category, at roughly 40% of the car rate. Buying the wrong category is a real risk: a car vignette registered to a motorcycle's plate does not make that motorcycle compliant.

When you order through us, choosing 'Motorcycle' as the vehicle type selects the correct product automatically.

Same durations, same rules

Motorcycles have the same four options as cars — 1-day, 10-day, 2-month and annual — and the same validity rules, including the 18-day earliest start for 2-month and annual vignettes bought online.

Section tolls still apply

As with cars, a vignette does not cover Austria's separately tolled routes. Alpine passes and tunnels popular with motorcyclists frequently carry their own charge, payable at the barrier.
